The two-hour Basic Camera workshop will cover the foundations of photography including understanding your menus, dials, functions and settings. We will cover ISO, white balance, exposure compensation, focus control, composition and general photo composition techniques. Learn the basics of more control in semi-automatic shooting modes, scene modes and Program mode to improve your overall photography.

Who Should Attend: Beginners using the camera in fully automatic who want more control of their camera and settings.

The two-hour Mastering Manual class is an intermediate workshop where you will learn how to control and shoot with more creative license. Understand aperture, using shutter speed, learn how to use your meter and how to control exposure. After this workshop you will be able to use your camera comfortably in Aperture Priortiy Mode, Shutter Speed Priority Mode and Manual Mode. A DSLR camera is suggested.

Who Should Attend: Intermediates using a DSLR camera in Program Mode (P). Familiarity with Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority or Manual Mode is fine but not necessary.

Understanding Lighting and Flash- $90

Friday, May 17th from 6-8pm

The two-hour Understanding Lighting and Flash workshop is suitable for beginners with an existing understanding of their camera in Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and/or Manual mode. This beginner, introductory lighting class and does not include studio lighting topics rather emphasis on learning how to "see" natural light and understanding the qualities of various natural lighting situations. We will review light manipulation with diffusers and reflectors and learn about direction, quality, color temperature and contrast. We will also cover on-camera and external flash basics including bouncing flash and using flash compensation to control intensity.

Who Should Attend: Beginners who are looking for an understanding of natural light and better use of flash.

Introduction to Lightroom - $90

Wednesday, May 15th from 6-8pm

This two hour workshop covers the software basics of what has become one of the most popular post processing programs for photo enthusiasts and professionals alike. The first part of the workshop will concentrate on the importing, selection, and cataloging of images. In the second part we will learn how to "develop" our images to get them to look their best or to add an artistic flair. See how Lightroom can pass images to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements for special treatment. Laptops and Lightroom are not required but are welcome. We will be using Adobe Lightroom version 4 for this workshop.
Note: A future class will cover additional capabilities of Lightroom with emphasis on printing and book creation.
Who should attend: New or interested Lightroom users.

Adobe Photoshop Elements - $90

Tuesday, June18th from 6-8pm

Tuesday, July 23rd from 6-8pm

 

The two-hour Photoshop Elements workshop is suitable for students wanting to learn photographic skills in the digital darkroom. We will be using PSE version 10, but all are welcome and encouraged to bring a laptop. We will cover use of the tools, cropping and straigntening, retouching, removing red eye, making skies blue and adding text. We will also be demonstraing making selections to adjust specific areas of a photo, masking and layers.

Who Should Attend: Amateur photographers who are looking for an understanding of post production and digital editing.

Class will be held at Jennifer Weinberg Photography Studio in Raleigh.

Our Instructors

Jennifer Weinberg

Jennifer has a BA in Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, CA. She is the owner of Jennifer Weinberg Photography and works as a professional photographer in addition to being a long time photo instructor. Jennifer has over 12 years of teaching experience working with groups and individuals, from amateur to professional. She loves working with others and sharing her passion for photography.

 

Kate Crumbo

Kate is often found instructing our Basic Camera Operation workshop in addition to the Mastering Manual Photography workshop. She has been working in photography for the past 16 years and studied photojournalism at Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC - one of the top photography schools in the southeast. Kate enjoys sharing her photographic knowledge with those who are starting out in the art of photography.

 

Danny Norris

Danny is our instructor for Understanding Lighting and Flash and also Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. He has been an avid photographer all his life with experience from the film and darkroom days to the present digital era. He has worked as a freelance portrait and event photographer and taught camera workshops to aspiring new photographers. Danny greatly enjoys sharing his knowledge and experience and encouraging new enthusiasts.
